Alcosuisse relies mainly on the railway system to transport ethanol out of consideration for the environment.

In the case of acquisition, tank wagons from our own fleet are used to fetch the cargo from the most diverse locations in Europe. The fully-laden tank wagons are subsequently transported to one of two of our operations in Schachen or Delémont and are emptied there into specially designated storage tanks.

In order to always be able to provide our customers with a sufficient and on-schedule supply of ethanol, our material purchasing is planned and managed by means of a long-term arrangement taking account of various parameters.
Our activities in the area of transport logistics have the support on a daily basis of our long-term partners in the logistics sector.

Thanks to our versatile infrastructure relating to alcohol transport containers, we are able to meet the different requirements of our ethanol customers. For sales we have available our own railway tank wagons in various sizes, big interchangeable containers on flat wagons, as well as smaller IBC tank containers. Upon request we are able to obtain vats for our customers, carry out deliveries in transport containers of 20kg or 10 kg or upon request also arrange road transport.

One of our stated goals is the continual optimisation of our logistics, so as to be able to better meet the needs of our customers in future.

For a rental charge Alcosuisse provides various transport containers for deliveries or supplies the goods in the customer’s own containers. Transport costs are in principle covered in the sales prices. The purchase price of the disposable containers is included in the price of the ethanol. We wish to point out that the maximum storage period for this type of container is six months.
